I’ve never felt so at home on my ride and free as bird, as I did today. There exists a certain level of comfort when a master mechanic such as Clem passes you back the keys to your mount. The first few minutes back on the road are enough to align the rhythm of those 2 cylinders to your own heart beat. As far as I’m concerned, I’m ready for the rest of our journey.
Our trip wasn’t without set backs and after half hour of riding through the mountains without actually covering much ground, Bruno begins to worry that we are getting set back with time once again. I secretly hold back my enthusiasm, for the twisting roads that climb up and down this landscape have reinvigorated my sense of adventure.
As we press onward, the oasis that is Colorado divulges itself before my eyes. I absorb it’s lush greens and the layered peaks that decorate the backdrop better than a Bob Ross painting. Kygo’s Firestone lights up my ear buds to which I have no complaints; in fact I must have played the song back 198 times. I listened to it so much, at one point I was singing along to it until I glanced down and realized I forgot to plug my headphones in at our last gas stop.
I embrace the insanity and elevate it to the point of selfishness. At a complete disregard for the anxiety I might cause my fellow riders behind me, I free my hands from the constrains of the bike controls. They shoot out to my sides as float down this winding two lane road. These moments are mine and no one can take them from me.
This all, very quickly, became a scenario by which photos do no justice. An uncluttered view of the world in front of you, coupled with the violence that is the elements beating on your chest, with a rumbling engine gliding you down an open road are the ingredients for an unforgettable escapade. For me, this trip just started.
The wide-open world vista that is the western United States makes clear why Ansel Adams preferred the large plate camera he used. You need that to begin to capture the enormity of it all. As you found in Kansas, there are a variety of landscapes west of the Mississippi that cure one’s hubris and self absorption. Its why some folks do not like being here, and others wouldn’t live anywhere else.
Loving all your posts
